Venice Golf Cart Repair services golf carts at your driveway across Nokomis and Laurel, from the Venetian Golf and River Club on the Myakka to the neighborhoods west of US-41 toward Nokomis Beach and Casey Key. Nokomis is the next community north of Venice on the Trail, so it is one of the fastest stops we make. Nokomis is small and old-Florida on the census page: the 2020 count was 3,217 residents in about two square miles, with a median age of 54.4 and 28.5 percent of residents 65 or older. But the census-designated place understates the cart population, because the gated communities along Laurel Road and the Nokomis and Laurel neighborhoods that carry a Nokomis mailing address extend well beyond it. Nokomis is unincorporated Sarasota County, which means the county, not a city, decides which public streets are designated for golf carts under F.S. 316.212.

Where Nokomis carts live

Venetian Golf and River Club. The gated 1,039-acre community on the north side of Laurel Road, about a mile and a half east of I-75’s exit 195, with 1,377 homes, a Chip Powell-designed 18-hole course, and a 74-acre nature park along the Myakka River. Carts here are daily transportation to the River Club, the courts, and the course, and the community is old enough that many are on their second pack. West of the Trail toward the beach. The Zachos Realty guide to South County cart neighborhoods describes the Nokomis corridor’s “quiet back roads ideal for golf carts reaching the beach.” The neighborhoods between US-41 and Nokomis Beach are a mix of 1960s-to-1990s homes on flat streets a mile or less from the Gulf, and the carts there are the most salt-exposed we see north of Venice.

Laurel and the Legacy Trail. Newer subdivisions along Laurel Road toward I-75 add family carts and LSVs to the fleet, and the Legacy Trail’s two and a half miles through Nokomis, including the Shakett Creek bridge at Dona Bay, run through cart neighborhoods even though the trail itself is for bikes and pedestrians.

What Nokomis carts need

Salt air. Dona Bay, Shakett Creek, and the Intracoastal cut through Nokomis, the Gulf is a mile away for most of it, and Casey Key carts live in Gulf air on both sides. Salt aerosol speeds corrosion at every metal-to-metal junction on a cart, corroded connections add resistance, and resistance makes a healthy pack look dead. Every Nokomis visit includes terminal cleaning and coating and a voltage-drop test along the cables, because the difference between a corroded cable and a dead pack is about $1,000. Heat and the wet season. NOAA’s Venice normals apply: average highs of 91.5 degrees in July and August, roughly 60 percent of the year’s rain in June through September. Flooded packs lose water fast, self-discharge faster, and sulfate when they sit. The tune-up waters, load-tests, and coats, and it is the right October call for any seasonal cart that sat through a Nokomis summer.

Charge ports and wear items. Exposed port contacts in salt air fail first; “works when I wiggle the plug” is a $100 to $300 port repair, not a pack, and we test it before quoting anything on a no-charge call. No winter layup means brakes and tires wear on cycles, with beach sand in the drums.

Golf cart or LSV. Many newer ICON, Evolution, Bintelli, and Kandi carts in the Laurel Road communities are low-speed vehicles from the factory under F.S. 320.01: titled, insured, licensed driver, roads posted 35 mph or less.
